The Chapel was declared
too dangerous to be used by the congregation following an inspection by a surveyor called in as part of the Planning Application to Carrick District Council to replace the building. In the surveyor's professional opinion the risk to users was too great and the minister, the Reverend Andre Collenette, said it would be
too expensive to repair the building for long-term future use due to the major problems found; which included a collapsed floor, flooding and questions over the foundations.
For the time being Sunday Morning Services and Junior Church will held at the Village Hall at the usual time of 10.30 a.m.
At the same time the/members and supporters of the Chapel are determined to build a new church that will enable them to continue to serve the local community with the possibility of attaining a grant to fund the plan to replace the present building with a new, low maintenance, single-level Chapel.
This will include further discussions with Carrick whom to date have expressed concern over demolishing and replacing the present building.
